President and Chief Executive Officer
Scott Drake is a proven leader in the medical device space. He is currently the President and CEO of ViewRay, an MRI-guided radiation therapy company with leading technology. Previously, Scott was President and CEO of Spectranetics, a publicly traded medical device company. During his six-year tenure, shareholder value increased from approximately $170 million to $2.2 billion when acquired by Royal Philips. Prior to Spectranetics, he spent 17 years in leadership positions within numerous health care business units at Covidien, including President of Covidien’s $1.5 billion Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions Global Business. Drake serves as Chairman of the Board for AtriCure (NASDAQ: ATRC) and as the Chairperson of the AdvaMed Radiation Therapy Sector. He previously served on the Board of Directors for The Zayo Group Holdings, Inc, which was acquired by Digital Colony and EQT for $14.3 billion. In 2014 he was named an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Shahriar (Shar) Matin
Chief Operating Officer
Shar Matin joined ViewRay as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in July 2018 with over 20 years of medical technology experience. He has led commercial and technical teams in the United States, Europe and Asia. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Spectranetics prior to its $2.2 billion acquisition by Royal Philips. During his tenure, Spectranetics grew from $63 million to nearly $300 million in revenues and the enterprise value increased from $250 million to over $2 billion through product innovation and acquisitions, including the Stellarex Drug Coated Balloon divestment from Medtronic. Before joining Spectranetics, Matin was the Business Unit Director for Boston Scientific’s cardiac rhythm management operations in China. He also served in several commercial and engineering roles at Guidant Corporation. Matin also serves on the board of directors of the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority in Aurora, Colorado. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, with honors, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
James F. Dempsey PhD
Chief Scientific Officer
James F. Dempsey, Ph.D. has served as our Chief Scientific Officer since founding ViewRay in March 2004. Dr. Dempsey has been a member of the board of directors since January 2008. Dr. Dempsey brings more than 17 years of experience in the field of radiotherapy medical physics to ViewRay. He previously served as a faculty member in the University of Florida Department of Radiation Oncology, as Assistant Professor from July 2001 to July 2007 and Associate Professor from July 2007 to January 2008. Dr. Dempsey holds a B.S. in Radiochemistry from San Jose State University and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. We believe Dr. Dempsey is qualified to serve on our board of directors based on his in-depth knowledge of our product, business and industry, as well as his expertise in nuclear chemistry and physics and medical physics.
Martin Fuss MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Martin Fuss is Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Director of the Clinical Cooperative Think Tank (C2T2) as well as a practicing radiation oncologist and partner in Radiation Oncology Specialists in Tualatin, OR. Dr. Fuss graduated from medical school at the University of Heidelberg, Germany where he also obtained his doctorate degree in human imaging assessing blood flow changes in the brain using functional MRI techniques (DCE-MRI). He underwent his specialty training in radiation oncology at the University of Heidelberg and at the German Cancer Research Center (dkfz). During his residency, he was invited as a research fellow at the Proton Radiation Therapy facility at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA. From 2000 to 2006 he was a faculty member at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, San Antonio, TX (UTHSCSA). Prior to moving into private practice, he was Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) from 2006-2013.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Rob Fuchs joined ViewRay as Chief Human Resources Officer in October of 2018, bringing more than 25 years of human resource leadership in the medical device, high-tech, telecommunications, and service industries. He most recently served as the Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources Officer for Advanced Energy. Previously, Fuchs served as the Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources at Spectranetics Corporation in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In this role, he led all aspects of human resources. Prior to his role at Spectranetics, he worked for over 13 years at Echostar Communications and DISH Network, public sister companies in Englewood, Colorado. During his tenure there, he held a variety of human resources leadership roles. Mr. Fuchs has a bachelor of science in business and marketing from Ithaca College.
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Robert McCormack joined ViewRay as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in August 2018. He has worked in the medical device and IT industries since 2008. Prior to that, Mr. McCormack worked in private practice in Denver, Colorado, where he focused on corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and general business matters. Mr. McCormack holds a JD from the University of Denver, College of Law and a BS in Finance from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Chief Financial Officer
Zach has more than 20 years of experience in the medical device and healthcare industries. He was most recently the CFO and COO at Bolder Surgical, an innovative, privately-held med-tech company. Prior to Bolder Surgical, Zach held various business development roles at Spectranetics, including Vice President of Finance, prior to its acquisition by Royal Philips. Earlier, he co-founded a device company that was acquired by Cardinal Health. Zach also has experience as a healthcare investment banker on Piper Jaffray’s team. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern and a bachelor’s degree from Drake University.
